Trafficking in Persons in the Digital Age: A Victim-Centered Orientation
9th - 13th November 2026, Rotteram
This international week is conceived as an interactive platform combining lectures, field visits, and collaborative sessions. It will focus on how digitalization reshapes trafficking in persons, while placing victims’ rights, needs, and agency at the center of responses.
Recognizing that various aspects of trafficking increasingly take place in online environments — through social media, digital recruitment, and emerging technologies — the programme aims to critically explore how practitioners, researchers, and policymakers can respond effectively and ethically in this evolving landscape.
Through (guest) lectures, field visits and workshops, participants will engage with themes such as:
- Digital modus operandi – online recruitment, grooming, and exploitation, as well as the role of platforms and digital infrastructures
- Victim-centered approaches – including trauma-informed care, digital safety, privacy, and long-term recovery
- Prevention and awareness – strategies targeting online spaces, youth, and vulnerable groups
- Collaboration across sectors – strengthening partnerships between academia, NGOs, law enforcement, and the tech sector
An important component of the programme will be guest lectures from international experts and practitioners, as well as opportunities for students and staff to engage in interactive sessions and co-create victim-centered responses to digital trafficking.
