The topic works off one of the premises prioritized in the EU – the goal to create an economy that works for the people since individuals and businesses in the EU can only thrive if the economy works for them. The EU's unique market economy needs to work to provide more opportunities for the medium-sized companies that are the backbone of the EU's economy, and cross-border corporate restructurings are one of the options to do so. It is, therefore, essential to encourage and inspire companies from different Member States to exercise their freedom of establishment and consider cross-border restructurings to further their business in the EU. This encouragement will be one of the goals of the proposed module. The module has a strong international dimension and relevance. It will generate knowledge and insights that can support the EU and its international policymaking and strengthen the role of the EU in a globalized world.

The module's aim:

To equip participants (students, legal practitioners, shareholders, creditors, and workers, as well as general society) with a better understanding of the impact such cross-border restructuring proceedings can have on the companies (status and financial wise) and provide the participants with the ability to use the gained knowledge in everyday legal practice, give them the tools to be prepared for future challenges and help them actively shape future developments in the related field. By furthering the research work in this area, the module will shed light on new solutions within the EU and contribute to sharing good practices.
The module, supervised by experts in this field of law, will deliver 225 teaching hours to the participants. It will also produce a website for the module, regularly refreshed with new articles, caselaw notes, blog posts, a scientific article, and an e-textbook on the topic.
A conference, roundtable, and open day will also be organized. The module, therefore, has the potential to impose a deeper acknowledgment of the possibilities of companies in the EU market on all stakeholders and will have a lasting impact on stakeholders and companies in general for years to come.
