MUNLawS
Established in 2013, MUNLawS is organised by the MUN Club at the Faculty of Law, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. Eight conferences have been held at the faculty so far, and due to the course of the events, one online. The first conference hosted simulations of six different committees. So far, more than 900 delegates from over 40 countries of the world attended the competition, ultimately proving it is the leading university-level MUN conference in the region.
The conference is aimed at university students and older high school students as well as young professionals. By discussing a broader range of interesting and motivating topics, competitors advance their knowledge on international law, international relations, diplomacy, and international security in the course of discussing topical issues of the international community. Every year, MUNLawS offers a unique chance to engage in diplomatic debates in a variety of different committees, each focusing on one of the current issues of the international community. Besides, with many distinguished keynote speakers, roundtables and social events, MUNLawS represents a unique MUN, offering an amazing occasion to build friendships, expand horizons and enjoy in the lively Ljubljana city centre.
The simulated committees vary from year to year. Participating in each committee brings with it new challenges as well as variation on procedural rules and written documents do be drafted by competitors (position papers, communiques, resolutions, judgements, memorandums and so on). So far, students from Faculty of Law UM participated in the following Committees:
- Human Rights Council
- International Court of Justice
- NATO
- Permanent Court of Arbitration
- Security Council
- Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice
As of 2021, Faculty of Law UM students and their mentors received the following awards:
- Best University Delegation (2016, 2018, 2019, 2020);
- Best University Delegate in Human Rights Council (2016, 2017, 2018)
- Best University Delegate in Security Council (2020)
- Outstanding University Delegate in Human Rights Council (2020)
- Outstanding University Delegate in NATO (2019)
- Outstanding University Delegate in Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (2019)
- Honourable Mention in Human Rights Council (2016, 2018)
- Honourable Mention in Permanent Court of Arbitration (2018)
