Biography:

Vesna Rijavec is a full professor and current dean at the Faculty of Law, University of Maribor. She has been a visiting professor at numerous high-ranking universities, including Vienna, Graz, Göttingen, Hamburg, Zagreb, Skopje, and Tokyo. Furthermore, she is a doctor honoris causa of the Karel Franzens University in Graz and a chief editor of the journal “Medicine, Law, and Society”. Rijavec coordinated several successful EU and national projects (e.g., Diversity of Enforcement titles in the EU, Simplification of Debt Collection in the EU, Dimensions of Evidence in European Civil Procedure, Reform of Non-Contentious Procedure).  She is the author of numerous scientific and expert discussions, articles, and monographs in the area of civil procedure, EU international private and procedural law, succession, family, and property law.

Additionally, she is a member of a working group on the Reform of the Brussels Ibis Regulation of the Max Planck Institute Luxembourg and vice president of the Ljubljana Arbitration Centre at the Slovenian Chamber of Commerce. Rijavec speaks Slovenian, German, English, Croatian, Serbian, French, and Italian. She is a court-appointed interpreter for the German language. In the past, she served as a judge for civil matters at the court of justice in Maribor and a member of the Judicial Council of the Republic of Slovenia.
