Biography:

Full Professor dr. h.c. Janez Kranjc, Ph.D., graduated from the Ljubljana Faculty of Law in 1971 and defended his doctoral thesis at the same faculty in 1980. He further perfected his knowledge at numerous universities – University of Vienna, in Rome, in Köln and Cambridge University. He became an Associate Professor of Roman Law at the Ljubljana Faculty of Law in 1987 and a Full Professor later in 1992. He visited many universities as a visiting lecturer and was a visiting researcher at the Straus Institute for Advanced Study of Law and Justice at the New York University School of Law and University Carlos III in Madrid.

Janez Kranjc, Ph.D., has studied Roman law, Latin, questions related to linguistics in law and legal matters, related to higher education.

He was president of the Judicial Council of the Republic of Slovenia and President of the European Law Faculties Association. He is an honorary doctor at the University of Poitiers (France) and a knight of the French Legion of Honor. He received the Zois award for his outstanding scientific research activity achievements in 2010. Since 2012, he is also a member of The Academy of Europe – Academia Europaea.
